Insure your office
28 Oct 2009
That's because you will need to understand the risks and exposures you face and decide upon the types of cover you'll need. This is where our expertise and product range could help.
There are of course the usual and obvious risks that could arise through natural disasters such as fires, floods, subsidence and so on. If you also happen to be the owner of the property itself, you may need to think about the physical building and its repair/renovation. This is where buildings insurance comes in to protect you.
If you are not the property owner, although you may not need to worry about the physical building, your office itself could have suffered major disruption and even destruction or significant losses of stock and equipment. This is where some of our contents insurance products may be of interest.
Liability insurance
What may be less obvious are those risks that come about as a result of people - specifically your employees and members of the public.
In terms of the public risk, few people would dispute that we live in an increasingly litigious world. In other words, people are less likely to have an accident and shrug it off as "just bad luck". They want someone to be accountable and pay up for any damages or injuries caused.
If such an accident arises in your office or even if it is caused indirectly by your property to a passerby, the costs awarded by courts can go into high figures if the injuries are severe enough. That is why all of our business insurance packages provide you with public liability insurance as standard. We appreciate that public liability insurance is so important. It offers you protection against the financial impact of such claims.
You may also need to think about the risks that come with employees. In most cases employers' liability insurance is a legal requirement (there are some exceptions) the moment you employ staff.
This covers you against the costs arising from an employee's claim that they were injured during the course of their duties on your behalf. It's worth noting that this is an important area as employees can also launch claims for a variety of other reasons apart from accidents in the office - this could include environmental damage (e.g. emotional stress) or work practice problems such as repetitive stress injuries.
If you do not have insurance to protect you against some or all of the above risks then you potentially may be very busy writing very large cheques for compensation and legal fees if you're unlucky enough to encounter one of these situations.
Fortunately you do have an alternative. We are part of Europe's largest independent insurance intermediary and can offer you a range of packaged solutions that could help you sleep a little more securely at night!
